Oh! I knew what this was based on as soon as I saw it. I live in the area where this happened and grew up with the story. So sad. I've always loved Mary. Your painting is perfect. It is a lovely tribute indeed.

Thanks, Raven. I made a snazzy frame for it that I am going to post pics of later. It has a banner with the title hanging from the bottom.
Oh Miss Mary! Things would be different for her today. I think 2 out of 3 of the lady elephants at the Phoenix zoo have smooshed people. I could be wrong, but thats the rumor I heard.

Yeah, things are quite different now, and that's good. You can't label an animal as 'murderous' because it defended itself against a captor; it was wild until we came along. People are so silly sometimes.

haha those tears amuse me, which sounds cruel when I say it.
Thank you, and yes, elephants are wonderful. I think I get so sad for them because they have an immense capacity for emotion themselves. Sweet sweet critters.
